Co-op Grocery Stores
I’m also continuing work on the Co-op Grocery Stores area.
One memory that comes back to me as I work on Co-op Grocery Stores is visiting The Discovery museum in Reno and learning about teosinte, the wild ancestor from which people domesticated maize. The museum was hosting Maize: Mysteries of an Ancient Grain, an exhibition about the history, evolution and genetic diversity of maize, also known as corn. At the same time, the museum was also hosting the traveling Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants exhibition. Experiences like that are part of what I want this project to connect: food isn’t merely something sitting on a grocery-store shelf. Every ingredient can lead outward into agriculture, history, science, culture, ecosystems and the long story of how people learned to grow the foods we eat.
